Online Dispute Resolution (ODR)
Williams Mediation Services is one of four (4) trained and authorized mediators working on the ODR project for the Provincial Court of BC.
The process of online mediation is similar to face to face mediation in that the principles of the mediation itself are the same. What differs is that one or both of the parties may be in different geographical locations and use various technologies to communicate with the mediator and the other party.
In the case where both parties are online, ODR imagines the parties using a neutral platform that protects their home email address, yet allows them to have a non-real-time conversation with the other party and the mediator. They send and receive email messages and with the assistance of the mediator attempt to resolve their dispute without having to travel to attend a meeting.
There may be times when a video conference is preferable to either start or continue a mediation, again using a neutral platform that allows for the mediator to run the meeting. The mediator will continue to assist the parties in holding a mediation to attempt finding a resolution to a dispute.
When parties have issues concerning personal security or are unwilling or unable to travel, this process may be a valuable tool in resolving a dispute at a much lower cost.
Williams Mediation Services uses secure, confidential, private platforms to accomplish this time and money saving process. The systems are easy to use and most parties need no additional equipment other than a personal computer to participate.
