The Importance of Conflict Management
Managers and supervisors are most often trained in the direction and coaching of employee groups. Conflict management is erroneously assumed to be a part of that training. Thereafter, conflict is avoided or buried by managers and supervisors in the hopes that the situation will resolve itself and not require intervention.
In fact what usually happens is the growth of a festering animosity between the parties that can completely destabilize the workplace. The parties can “turn off” at work and in a passive aggressive standoff undermine the productivity of a work team or an entire department.
